What is Depo-testosterone? It is hormone replacement medication available by prescription only. It is used primarily by men who cannot produce enough testosterone naturally. Males need the natural hormone testosterone to help functions like body growth and the development of genitalia. Men dealing with sexual dysfunction issues make up for about 80 percent of its users.

How does this hormone replacement work?

To understand how it works, a person needs to understand how testosterone works in the body. Testosterone is made in the male testes. As the body ages, the system slows down significantly. This also includes the male organs in the natural production of testosterone. So, once “Low-T” or the reduction of testosterone takes place, this testosterone replacement is used to replenish it. As soon as the testosterone is injected and hits the bloodstream, the immediate result is the balancing out of hormones. How quickly it works in terms of helping men with sexual issues varies. However, a clinical study demonstrated how it responds to certain symptoms from week to week:

  • Week One: Increased sex drive and sexual libido.
  • Week Three: Spontaneous erections and strong ejaculations; sexual thoughts and fantasies; lessening of mood swings and irritability.
  • Week Six: The diminishing of depression.

How to use this medication?

Injections of this hormone replacement can be given in the doctor’s office, or you may do it yourself at home. The medication is taken by injection into the buttock. Dosage is given every one to four weeks depending on the user’s medical condition. It is important to note that the hormone should never be injected into a vein. Individuals who opt to self-inject should be well aware of the protocol, which should be outlined to you by a health professional. Depo-Testosterone itself should always be checked before using. If it is discolored or has particles in it, discards it immediately. To gain the maximum benefit from the hormone, it should be used as frequently as the prescription allows. If you self-inject, be aware that it should not be overused. Whatever protocol is set forth by your doctor is what should be followed to the letter.

Who should not take this medication?

Although Depo-Testosterone is good for some people and has incredible results, it is not safe for everyone to take. There are certain side effects that could result could prove deadly. If you suffer from allergies to benzyl alcohol or cottonseed oil, you should not take this medication. This is also true for males who have had prostate cancer or have liver or heart problems. A woman who is pregnant or breastfeeding should not take it. Additionally, anyone who suffers from lung disease, sleep apnea, should speak with their physician before taking this medication.

What are the side effects?

There are a number of side effects that can accompany the use of Depo shot Testosterone. The most prominent include vomiting, nausea, hair loss, headache and acne. In some cases, there may be redness and pain at the injection site. If any of these conditions occur, you should speak with your physician immediately. There is also the chance of psychological side effects such as mood changes, anxiety, depression and heightened anger. Abdomen pain, rapid heartbeat, dark urine, swelling of the ankles and unusual fatigue can also happen. If any of these symptoms persist, call your physician. If you have serious side effects like shortness of breath and chest pains, seek medical help immediately. Although there is an extensive list of potential side effects, most user rarely reports any issues.

Why do women take this medication?

Women can also benefit from the use of Depo-Testosterone injections. While testosterone is primarily produced in males, women also produce it in much smaller levels. And women, like men, have issues with hormone reduction over the years. The medication is beneficial in increasing bone density and battling against the onset of osteoporosis. It can also battle the symptoms that happen during menopause like hot sweats and mood swings. Some physicians say it can be useful in treating certain types of breast cancer. But most importantly, it also helps improve the sex drive. Like men, women should take great care in using this hormone replacement. Side effects can include weight gain, excessive hair growth, mood swings, genitalia swelling, itching and allergic reactions.

Many adults who take Depo-Testosterone shots thoroughly enjoy the benefits. It is most beneficial to men who suffer from low testosterone and produces successful results. If you feel you are a good candidate for this hormone replacement, speak with your doctor. They will conduct the proper tests to determine if you are a good candidate for this type of therapy. Remember to follow the specific protocols as outlined by your physician and do not alter this in any way. And if you suffer side effects of any type, contact your physician immediately.

What I love about depo-testosterone replacement therapy is that it helps the body produce its own testosterone over time. Other steroids and testosterone replacement therapies do not have such qualities. As was explained to me, depo testosterone is one of the oldest forms of testosterone substances used for hormonal problems like low-T. Although it is relatively safe, as with all forms of testosterone, negative effects are possible which is why it is important to take it under proper medical supervision. I have not experienced any side effects myself only positive ones since I have been on the therapy. I attribute this to constant supervision.

Before I started my Depo Testosterone therapy my testosterone levels were poor. On the two tests I took my T-levels came in at around 143 & 125. I am 8 weeks into my therapy and my last bloodwork showed that my T-levels rose to 257. While that is not that great, it is an improvement and I am very happy with the results so far. I do not plan on staying on testosterone therapy indefinitely. I hope I can reach 400 by the end of 12 weeks. If not, my doctor has said that it is alright to increase my dosages until the 24-week period in order to reach optimal levels before I reduce the dosage to maintenance levels. I have high hopes as I have already seen improvements and feel much better than before I started.

Had a really bad experience before with other forms of hormonal replacement therapy. I won’t name names and go into details because it is not worth my time and effort. After switching doctors several times, I finally found a hormonal replacement therapy that worked for me. Have nothing but good things to say about this HRT service and love how they explained the entire process to me, from price to benefits and potential side effects.
